Homeschooling Enters 2026 Debate and Faces Rejection in Chamber Committee

The regulation of homeschooling has become part of the 2026 presidential race debates, with support from Romeu Zema. The proposal to legalize the model is once again gaining ground on the national political stage.

On the other hand, the issue recently met resistance in the National Congress. A special committee of the Chamber of Deputies voted against including home education in the new National Education Plan.

Despite legal challenges in the courts and barriers in the Legislature, families continue schooling outside traditional schools. Educational activities continue to be conducted by the guardians themselves or with the support of private tutors.
